“So, he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them… He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” Matthew 25:20 NKJV
The first thing to note is that the servants who multiplied their talents were elevated to rulership. This means that they didn’t merely manage what they were given, but they excelled and demonstrated fruitful multiplication. They didn’t just receive more talents to work with; they were granted rulership because of their faithfulness.
This aligns with the creation mandate in Genesis 1:28, where God blessed man and instructed us to be fruitful, multiply, and have dominion over the earth. The servants exemplified this mandate by being fruitful and multiplying what was given to them.
They understood that every resource given to them was a means to an end, not the end. They didn’t succumb to the temptation to squander or misuse what they had been given. They overcame greed and fake business opportunities, ensuring that they were good custodians of their resources, including the results of their diligent work.
How can we ensure that we too, can multiply our resources and subdue temptations even as we work?
We are placed here on earth to be channels of blessing, to rule over many things, and to dominate. To dominate, we must overcome the very habits that draw us down. If we don’t, we will be unable to survive the success that we receive.
Both servants who multiplied their talents received the same reward, despite the difference in the number of talents they were initially given. This means our blessings and rewards are not solely determined by the quantity of resources we have but by how diligently and faithfully we use them.
“I multiply resources, subdue challenges, and compare myself with no one.”
This declaration requires effort and reliance on the Holy Spirit to transform us into stewards capable of ruling over many things. It re-emphasises that our ability to multiply, fill the earth, and subdue depends on who we become.
Seek to view everything through the lens of God’s wisdom. As we walk with God, we will understand that God’s plans for us are for our good. This way, we position ourselves to receive and sustain the success God desires.
