“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:11 NIV
We often want control, and fear of the unknown causes us to ensure there are no unknowns. Surprises throw us off balance, and we want to ensure things are figured out.
By ourselves, we’ve become Assistant Holy Spirit, trying to be the God of our lives and leading ourselves to our expected end. Is this what God wants for us?
When the Israelites were to enter the promised land and there were perceived giants in the land, they chose to act based on their fears and level of knowledge. This was what affected their journey.
There have been several times I’ve prayed to God concerning a thing, but I still had a plan B just in case He didn’t answer. Now, that doesn’t make any sense, but I didn’t because I clearly didn’t trust God enough.
Just as we make every effort to take control of our lives, God desires that we make every effort to trust Him and enter into His rest.
How can we work from a place of rest?
This doesn’t mean having a smooth day where nobody triggers us or disrupts our day. Working with anyone creates opportunities for events out of our control.
It also doesn’t mean having very little to do so that we feel very relaxed all day. If you’re striving for something and are self-driven, even 24 hours looks like a very short period to accomplish anything.
Rest here signifies total trust in God’s plan for our lives. It means knowing, with precision, the moves God is making and going ahead with work, understanding that we have received what we need from the place of prayer to get exceptional results.
In other words, we are not moved by complex projects, disappointments, or work challenges because, when we take these matters to God in prayer, we receive answers that boost our trust in God.
So, we can work from the place of rest, sleeping through the storm instead of allowing negative voices to tell us that we will sink. We can see giant projects as grasshoppers and rely on God’s wisdom for victory.
When I discovered this secret, I realised I’d done so much striving in my life and received only a fraction of what God has for me because I didn’t continuously present my requests in prayer until I got answers.
“I work from rest every day.”
This declaration requires action. What answers do you need concerning the work you do? Take everything to God in prayer, stay in His presence, and you’ll know when the answer comes.
Without prayer, working from God’s rest isn’t achievable. So, look at your day and make time for prayer.
