SPIRIT
“…I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run! —on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands…”
Ephesians 4:1 MSG
The idle hand is the devil’s workshop” is one phrase most of us have repeatedly said growing up. My siblings and I were brought up to always do something valuable with time. It was taboo for my parents to find us sitting idly, doing nothing.
Here, Paul also says he doesn’t want anyone idle. Why?
- The Holy Spirit collaborating with you is not idle. The power you’re filled with also can’t perform in idleness – it needs to be put to use. Fuel in a parked car is useless until the car moves.
- We all have a calling – a type of work that must be done. To be idle means you have either not found this unique calling or you don’t see it as important.
- Sitting around won’t move you closer to your future self. Remember, you must become all that God wants you to be.
So, what are you going to do about this? I guess it’s time to get moving!
BODY
How does idleness sabotage our work?
Mastery is built with practice. With mastery comes a level of excellence that someone with less experience can’t attain.
Mediocrity thrives in idleness. Everyone starts here, but some people never leave. To be idle doesn’t just mean being lazy but engaging in activities that are not worthy of your time and are unrelated to what you should be doing.
You divert your practice, build mastery in idle activities and stay mediocre in your calling. If you must get out there and walk on the road God called you to travel, walk well.
