“But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Luke 1:43 NIV
The words we use reflect whether we believe what God has told us or we don’t.
An angel had just visited Mary, and after that encounter, she left to visit Elizabeth, who was six months pregnant. Then something significant happened.
Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting and made the statement above. But Mary hadn’t given birth. Regardless of this fact, Elizabeth called her “mother of my Lord” and ascribed a blessing to her presence.
To Elizabeth, God’s promise had already happened because God had said it. She didn’t wait for the external circumstances to match the promise; her reality was God’s promise.
If you read further down the chapter, you’ll see that Mary had the same disposition, calling herself blessed by the promise alone and not the physical manifestation.
When I realised this, I knew I’d been doing it wrong. The usual response to a promise from God is to say, “God has said He will do it.” But that’s not right. The response should be, “God has done it.” And we must believe it is done even when it hasn’t happened physically.
The mind doesn’t know the difference between the past and the future. It also can’t tell the difference between imagination and physical reality. It acts on whatever we feed it.
When we tell our minds that God has done what He promised us, we begin to create a reality in which the promise is fulfilled, thereby fast-tracking the physical manifestation.
You begin to act, think, feel, and speak like it is done, eventually causing others to see it get done. This is why Jesus would look at a lame man and say, “Your faith has made you whole.” Please tell me how he is whole, with his legs still powerless on the floor. It’s the same principle Mary and Elizabeth used—making a promise about the current reality and believing it is done.
So, if God has blessed you and given you a picture of your work’s impact, rest assured that you are already that person with that future you saw. This is the only way you’ll receive the instructions needed to do excellent work and manifest the impact you saw.
I pray that even as you receive the instructions that yield excellent work, you receive the strength to do them and become all God has called you to be.
