Power Up Your SPIRIT
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 NIV
I’ve heard over time that this Godkind of love is not driven by feelings but by commitment.
God is committed to loving us and He wants us to do the same for others. It means showing love even when we don’t want to or feel like it.
God uses this approach because He knows what’s on the other side of love. He knows that when we love, a sense of fulfilment flows after. A transformation occurs.
We don’t know this and only see the effort involved in loving others. So, we don’t.
But here’s what happens when we choose to love…
We want to do it again.
Even when the person doesn’t deserve that love and we do it anyway, we feel accomplished and so much at peace that we want to have that feeling repeatedly.
So loving others does not start with feelings but a commitment. Eventually, the feelings come after to establish that love in our hearts.
The Holy Spirit makes the first move by causing us to show love through forgiveness, compassion, mercy, kindness, etc.
Once His work is done, our soul and body take over, making us see reasons to repeat it.
That’s the game plan. Many times, I really don’t want to love some people because the process looks gruelling. But let’s all play the love game and see what happens.
Hack Your BODY
How can we overlook the “sins” of others at work through love?
When all you do is count the errors of others, you’ll start to feel…
Bitter
Resentful
Exhausted
I know because I’ve felt these emotions and more. It’s not a good place to be.
But then at a retreat, God clearly told me to pray for those who make work difficult for me. That was like the icing on the cake of my transformation.
I didn’t want to pray for them, but I made the decision to.
When I did it the first time, it felt like a heavy burden was lifted. I felt lighter.
Guess what happened?
I wanted to always feel lighter. So, I kept praying for them after that day.
You can’t overlook the sins of others at work by saying you will overlook them.
You must first make a commitment to express love. Then overlooking becomes easier.
I still feel bitter, resentful, and exhausted in some environments sometimes. But this is a wake-up call to do the needful.
