“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105
Have you ever felt like you’re standing in the dark, unable to move forward? As children, we may have been afraid of the dark, but as adults, darkness can represent a lack of clarity and vision, confusing what lies ahead.
Imagine holding a lamp in a dark tunnel. The light only brightens the area directly around you, making it almost impossible to see the end of the tunnel or any traps or obstacles in the path ahead.
The first part of the anchor scripture, “a lamp unto my feet,” means that as we take steps, the word of God shines on every step we take. It shows others that something empowers our steps, making them different from ordinary ones. The word of God lights our immediate path, guiding our every step and giving us confidence amidst darkness and confusion.
Next, the scripture says, “a light unto my path.” It means that there is still darkness ahead beyond the immediate circumference illuminated by the lamp. This part of the verse emphasises that the word provides awareness of the obstacles and challenges ahead. It allows us to walk with the assurance that we can overcome any obstacle, even if we cannot physically see it.
How can every step we take as we work be guided?
The verse shows us that, regardless of our industry or career, with the word of God guiding our steps, we can confidently approach our work. People will recognise that our steps are not ordinary and that we know the path and obstacles ahead.
In our pursuits, we must identify potential obstacles before encountering them. As you would prepare for a hike by packing the right tools, we must uncover and overcome the barriers that may hinder us from reaching our goals. By doing this, we can start with confidence and clarity, knowing that we have already considered and prepared for what may come our way.
By prioritising and following God’s word, we gain insights that allow us to see beyond what our physical eyes can perceive. We are then better equipped to navigate our paths with confidence.
“I take guided steps every day.”
Remember, we might not see the end of the journey or the peak of the mountain, but with faith and the guidance of God’s word, we can be assured that we will reach our destination.
Acknowledge the obstacles ahead, prepare for them, walk in the light of God’s word, and allow Him to direct your steps.
