“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV
My dad would make us sit every Saturday morning and have morning devotion. Some mornings, my siblings and I just wanted to watch a cartoon, but my dad would have none of that.
This anchor verse was our recitation at the end of every devotion. It was quite long to read, but we could say it from memory after a while.
Now, years later, I see the impact of this discipline. I may not have appreciated the compulsion to do devotion when I was younger, but I do now.
Some days, I want to sleep in, but I am reminded that I must make time to study and pray if I desire to prosper and have good success.
How can we activate this prosperity?
First of all, why do we need discipline? The answer to that is to know who we want to become.
How do we want to use those resources based on all God has deposited in us? It’s hard and almost impossible to build discipline for the sake of it. There must be a carrot at the end of the stick.
Secondly, is our lifestyle set for success? There’s a daily element to making our way prosperous. The anchor scripture lays it out:
- Confession
If the Word must not depart from our mouths, then we must constantly confess it over our lives. What we say to ourselves influences who we become.
God has His desires for us, but unless we align with His will, those desires may not grow in our hearts. Aligning puts us in sync with God and helps us say what He has said.
- Meditation
I only meditate on God’s word in the mornings, but the scripture says day and night. This doesn’t mean morning and evening but throughout the day and the night. Do you see that?
It means spending every waking moment meditating on God’s Word. In meditation, you see what your mouth is confessing. You let your spirit create pictures of the manifestation of God’s word in your life.
- Action
What’s the point in confessing and meditating if we never act? Our actions open the portal to the supernatural, allowing us to access resources.
We can confess and meditate about God’s future plans for us, but if we don’t act on the instructions we receive, nothing will happen.
So it’s not enough just to pray for prosperity in the works of our hands. We must follow the three steps above for prosperity and good success to be our reality.
“I confess, meditate, and act on the Word.”
When you put these three into the prayer sandwich and take a bite, you’ll experience an illumination like never before.
