“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. [6] Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
Sometimes, I wish disruptions never happen. Disruptions look like distractions, but they aren’t. They are new paths introduced into our lives while we walk a path.
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as “a break or interruption in the normal course or continuation of some activity, process, etc.”
For example, a new baby, job loss, a new business, an accident, getting married, receiving a quit notice, bankruptcy, an unannounced visitor, etc.
You’ll notice that disruptions aren’t always negative. But they change the course of your day or your life’s next few months.
Disruptions signify the entrance of new seasons. When it’s time to step onto another path, a disruption happens, sometimes orchestrated by us.
So, how do we handle disruptions?
I’ve never been a fan of disruptions, but I have always recognised when a disruption starts. One of the mistakes I’ve made is to not get mentally and physically ready for such events.
What happens is that the disruption starts, and then I start implementing new habits and patterns in my life to adjust to the disruption.
While this may seem good, it is also not proactive. It also shows that I’m leaning on my understanding.
God uses disruptions to move us onto other paths He would have us take. And he wants to direct us on those paths. He also wants to give us foresight into these new paths to prepare us for them.
Trusting in God goes beyond believing you’ll know what to do when the disruption hits. To trust Him is to say, “Even if I don’t know what to do, as long as you’re directing the path, I’m safe.” That’s how to align with His will.
When that trust is complete, the disruption stops being a disruption but another path God is taking us on. In the real sense, if God is leading us, what exactly is He disrupting? That new path becomes the path we should be on.
It’s a plus when we already have a game plan and are spiritually ready for the disruption ahead. But if this doesn’t happen and we realise midway that we’re clueless and need some direction, that’s also fine.
This article is God’s way of reminding me that even in the midst of the current disruptions in my life, He is directing my paths, as long as I put my trust in Him and not follow my own wisdom.
I hope this ministers to you in the same way.
