“Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armour of God’s righteousness.” Ephesians 6:14 NLT
My daughter doesn’t like wearing clothes. Sometimes, at the slightest sign of her underwear being soiled, she would remove her clothes and just run around the house naked, making two adults run after her.
It doesn’t matter how many times we tell her how important her clothes are. If she doesn’t like the outfit or just doesn’t want to listen, there’s a chance she’ll go naked later in the day. She won’t understand why clothes are important until she comes to the knowledge of the truth herself.
We’ve been told for years about the whole armour of God, and for a long time, I always wondered why Paul was specific with his comparison. Why is it the belt of truth?
Then I realised that the belt holds our clothes in place, so we don’t get embarrassed in public. What else can embarrass an adult in public? A show of ignorance.
The truth helps us hold everything in place, ensuring we are guarded and make the right decisions. Without the truth, wisdom will be far from us.
How does knowing the truth help us do exceptional work?
First of all, ignorance leads to peril (Hosea 4:6). So, with this contrast, we know that the truth leads to preservation. And anything that is preserved enjoys a long life and vitality, with the opportunity to fulfil purpose.
There is only one ultimate truth, and that is Jesus. Every other truth stems from the good news. There’s nothing like “my truth” or “your truth,” but only “the truth,” which refers to God’s Word.
Knowing this, we become confident in our identity in Christ. We work knowing that we are preserved, and we enjoy the promises of God. We confidently walk in wisdom, knowing that the enemy can’t shove a lie down our throats.
We can trust God, knowing that our work helps us fulfil our purpose. Because we know our identity, we tap into higher knowledge to deliver results that the ignorant ones can’t match.
So, remember this: we are not exceptional just because of the skills we have or the connections we have. It is because God’s Word has said it, and we believe it, so we will see it manifest as we do the work.

When we know the truth and we understand it, we start to grow in wisdom, which helps us make the right decisions. People will wonder about the kind of work you do because of your results and how different your life will be.
Let’s get more of the truth inside us so that we can make the foundation for all our beliefs stronger.
