“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” Isaiah 41:10 NKJV
Fear is a strong emotion built into our existence. It was placed there to help us survive, keeping us away from sabertooth tigers and other wild problems. People say it’s from the devil, but it’s not. The devil simply uses it as his primary emotion to enter our lives.
But when God wants to work through us, He always needs us to put fear aside. Faith, not fear, fuels His will in our lives, and so we must trust Him.
With the number of times the phrase “fear not” appears in the scriptures, you’d think we’d be over it by now. But there’s still always something to be afraid of.
What you’ve been empowered to do is greater than you and can make you afraid. God is telling you today that He understands and just wants you to know that He’s here whenever you need Him.
How can we overcome fear and just do the work?
I wish the answer was simple. Sometimes, we don’t know that it’s fear holding us back from doing the work.
In 2022, I had the privilege of speaking with a high-performance coach, and during the session, he pointed out that the fear of success had crippled me.
The evidence aligned, and I was surprised that it even existed. Knowing this fact helped me gradually claim the victory I already have over it.
You may not have the same privilege of having someone point it out, but self-reflection can sometimes do the trick. If there is something you know you ought to start doing but yet you feel a lot of resistance, then there’s a fear lurking in the shadows of your mind.
To tackle this, you can speak with someone more experienced, hire a coach, seek counsel from a mentor, or read a book. But start with prayer so you’re steered in the right direction.
“I want to go all in, but something keeps stopping me. These are the words I say to myself that stop me in my tracks every time.”
When you articulate the thoughts in your mind every time you feel the urge to take the next step on God’s path for you, what do the words say?
Write them down and take note of how they keep stopping you and making you fearful. Then pray for direction so you’re led to the right resource that can help you change those words into positive ones.
