“Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.” Galatians 6:5 MSG
I listened to an interview where the guest who was a Medical Doctor stated that she always believed she wasn’t a creative person. She told herself this all her life until she one day had an epiphany and started to change the narrative. Today, she owns her own business, has written a book and is pursuing other passions.
She’s just one of many people who have the same experience. Growing up, we’ve been told and have told ourselves several words that we’ve come to believe in and label ourselves with. Eventually, when people ask why we can’t do certain things, we respond with, “it’s because I am …”
We all have a responsibility to be creative, not just for others but for ourselves because it is how we will shape our lives. Creativity comes in different dimensions. It’s not until you can do the arts that you’re creative. Anyone with the ability to come up with the smallest ideas and solutions regardless of the field, industry or situation is creative and that’s everybody.
Have you been told you’re not creative? That you’re not gifted; good for nothing; dumb; unable to succeed? Those are attempts to label you. Are you going to wear those labels?
I have my fair share of labels that I’ve removed over the years, and I’m still removing more. Labels limit us and restrict us from what we are capable of. Since the focus scripture says it’s our responsibility to make life work, then I’m the only one who can remove the labels over my life. You can also do the same for yourself. The labels don’t come off automatically. You have to intentionally tear them off.
Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is very dynamic. I may act in a certain way or describe myself with a certain identity, but with His help, I can transform into anything and anyone I need to be, as the situation demands. Now that’s creativity.
