“You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.” Isaiah 26:3 GNT
A couple of years ago, I never imagined I would answer “Yes” to the question, “Do you hate your job?” I’ve always been the evangelist of doing what you love and what helps you thrive. I never had an experience of unfulfillment, and I never understood why anyone would put themselves through such. I was very blunt about it.
Then God, as if in a bid to take me through training, made me have empathy for those in unfulfilling jobs by making me experience it first-hand. I cried many times and for the first time, I saw how hard it was to leave such a job.
In the first few months at the new firm, I had all the energy in the world. But as the prevalent company culture unfolded and my ability to engage in multiple side projects was threatened, my zeal, passion, or call it what you want, started to die. I mentally checked out before I finally resigned. This is called quiet quitting.
I’ve also heard of experiences where the person’s hatred for the job somehow transformed into newfound love because of a turn of events. This is possible because I know that God cannot be put in a box.
When you go to Him, telling Him about how you feel, the solution can be anything. For this experience, I had to leave fast. I’ve had another experience where I had to stay but change how I worked so that when I finally exited later, I had no hard feelings.
The bottom line is to be at peace with the final decision. Sometimes the solution can seem hard, painful, and annoying, but deep down, you’ll know that’s what you need to do. Sometimes our personalities, background and experiences can influence our actions. But if it’s His perfect peace you’re after, the focus scripture says to trust and focus on God.
Have you ever hated your job before? What was it like?
