Power Up Your SPIRIT
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Mark 8:35 NIV
The first time I read this verse, it got me so confused. I thought, am I supposed to see danger and jump into it?
But the verse simply talks about sacrifice and eternity. Jesus simply asks, “Is your life worth more to you than me?”
The answer isn’t easy because even though we say we have surrendered; we still like to hold a part of it back.
Saving your life is to give attention to worldly desires that give you gratification. There’s usually no focus on eternity in this regard. For such lifestyles, the verse says there’s nothing else after death.
To lose your life for Christ and the gospel is always to stay aligned with His will. Die daily, and death will have nothing on you.
Does this mean we shouldn’t desire more? No, it doesn’t, but check the motive – why do you have that desire?
Your desires may be good, but God sees the heart. Let your desires be driven by what the spirit says, and you’ll see your body and soul eventually align.
Hack Your BODY
What’s the relationship between losing our lives for the gospel and the work we do?
You can desire to build the biggest empire because you want to prove to your peers and that absentee dad that you’re better than them. That’s saving your life. The way you’ll hit this goal will be different. You’ll gratify your flesh at every step.
When earthly death comes, you will have become so attached to what you have accumulated. But you would still have to lose it.
You can desire the same thing, but this time, you want to show the world how God can use someone with shortcomings like you to build something that transforms others. God will take you through different phases of death to self for this.
When earthly death comes, what you accumulated will not have as much value as the eternity you’ve been focused on.
So, the question we need to ask ourselves is why do we do what we do? What are we trying to save, and what are we willing to lose?
Grow Your SOUL
“At the end of my life, what growth experiences do I want to be most grateful for?”
Everyone has regrets, and those at the end of their lives often express it the most. Let’s flip the script. Growth requires that you die to certain things in your life. Write down those growth experiences that will give you the most gratitude at the end.
