“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
We all want to feel like we have things figured out. We want to know what lies at the end of the tunnel, the next step to take, what will show up 3 years into the future, who our future spouse will be, how many children we’ll have, and so on.
We want to feel secure in our knowledge, so we are never caught unaware. But that’s not how God designed life.
Our lives are designed based on God’s sovereign power and blueprint, all according to His will. This means He’s the only one who has everything figured out. Because of our limitations in time, we don’t.
So, to have things figured out, we must go to the one who has it all figured out. But here’s the thing: God never gives you the full blueprint. He can show you the end and give you an idea of how you’ll get there, but He never overwhelms you with all the little details.
Walking with Him, we see the breadcrumbs on the way and connect the dots. Eventually, when we get to our final destination and look back, we recognise God’s sovereignty and know that we could never have done life ourselves.
How can we trust in God’s sovereign will as we work?
The CEO knows the kind of business being built and so hires employees to make that vision a reality. He may pass that vision down to his team through training and company retreats, but he is still the creator and steward of the vision, having it clearer than anyone else. He also guides the team with daily tasks that gradually make that vision a reality.
God knows what He established, and He gave man work to do so that His will comes to pass. He may show us a picture, but He is still the chief custodian. This is why, for what we’re to do daily, we must receive our briefs from God.
We try to discover who we are, define our purpose, know our assignment, and have an acute vision of the work we’re to do. When we don’t get answers, we become anxious and lose sight of everything God is doing in our lives.
We don’t always have to know the end or get the blueprint. Our role is to trust God through the blueprint.
We trust God because He’s the Creator. We trust Him because we exist in His sovereign will. We trust Him because He knows the outcome of our lives.
So let’s stop trying and start trusting. Life is much simpler this way.
“I choose to trust God and quit trying in my limitations.”
God steps in when we reach the end of ourselves and turn to Him. When we try to do it all ourselves, He waits till we reach our wits end and become frustrated enough to trust Him.
There is no need to prolong the inevitable. Surrender is not a sign of weakness but submission to God’s strength. Let His strength be your strength.
