To drive God’s agenda for our lives, we must remember that, at some point, we will be unable to do it all ourselves. We will need to leverage the gifts of others to move forward.
In doing that, we must learn how to help them harness their gifts and channel them towards our cause. But most importantly, I believe we must also know a bit about their craft.
Brainstorming ideas and solutions to a problem you do not know of is challenging. Advising on something within your knowledge base allows you to share new insights the other party may not know.
We’ve all been empowered differently, and I believe in knowing a little about being T-shaped—having broad industry knowledge but drilling down on one or two. The benefit of this is when a problem is presented to you, and the presenter seems blank on what to do, you can combine experience and knowledge to give new insights.
As a T-shaped digital marketer, it’s difficult for my team to settle for statements like, “It’s not possible” or “There’s no solution to this problem.” There’s always a solution, and I am able to brainstorm with them to open their minds.
The final solution might still come from them, but my role in that mix is to create that banter of exploring different solutions because I know what I’m saying. It allows their expertise to come to the fore and pushes their minds to see that there’s a solution to every problem.
When we encounter a problem, our flesh is always tempted to conclude by saying, “This can’t be done.” I fall into this error sometimes. But when I conquer self and challenge the thought, my empowered spirit takes over, exploring ways to fix the problem.
When your team sees a pattern of defeat in you, they will either adopt that pattern or move to another organisation that doesn’t have that pattern. However, when you show a pattern of always finding solutions, they have no choice but to either align or be eliminated from the system through natural selection.
I pray that as you grow in your craft, you acquire all the experience and knowledge needed to create the right patterns that are an example for others. God has a pattern of good works, so we can too.
