“I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined to me and heard my cry. He also brought me out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my steps.” Psalms 40:1-2 NKJV
How do you define difficult situations? We all experience difficult situations at some point in life. Many times, we feel angry, sad, and bitter because we believe that every day should be bubbly and fun.
Transitioning from my previous church was a tough decision. I knew it was time to leave, but I struggled with the timing. I prayed for clarity, but it seemed like it was taking forever. It took me two whole years to finally know it was the right time. Looking back, I am grateful for that waiting period because it moulded me into who I am today. God is always interested in who we become.
I’ve learned that difficult seasons are not meant to destroy us but to transform us. God wants us to move forward, but in doing so, we must be transformed at every step of the way. So, during tough times, the key is to draw closer to God and to actively wait in the place of prayer. Feeling angry, bitter, or sad during those seasons is okay. However, we must keep reminding ourselves of the reason for the season and go back to God in prayer.
How does God prepare us for the work he has called us to do?
I’m a big believer in doing something that makes you feel fulfilled. You’re fulfilled when you do what God wants you to do in that particular season, and sometimes that can be painful.
I’ve realised that difficult seasons, whether in our work or personal lives, are signals to draw closer to God, to seek clarity, and to find joy even in the chaos. It’s tough, but it’s a call to remember the reason for being in that season and to hold on tightly to it, no matter how strong the storms may attempt to sway us.
When the season passes, because it will, who will you become? Would you go through the season the way God wants you to go through it, or would you go through the season angry at everything that’s going on?
“I wait patiently on the Lord through difficult seasons.”
Are you going through a difficult season in your life right now? Do you feel highly unfulfilled in the work that you’re doing? If you’re going through a difficult season, feeling unfulfilled or lost in your work or personal life, remember that every season has a purpose.
Seek God’s will for that season and hold on to it. As you do so, you’ll find strength and purpose, even in the toughest of times. In hindsight, you’ll be grateful for it.
