Power Up Your SPIRIT
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:3 NKJV
The Kingdom of Heaven doesn’t run on the flesh but on the spirit. It is inaccessible if we are all flesh and no spirit.
This is why being born again is the first step. We can have all the knowledge of the bible and how the kingdom works, but that’s still head knowledge.
I learned recently that knowledge does not equate to spiritual renewal. You can be a theologian and still miss the benefits of God’s Kingdom.
To be poor in spirit is to tell God that we may have all the knowledge and abilities in the world, but we are still nothing without Him.
I believe God wants us to always live in a surrendered mode not because He wants to feel important, but because He knows that there is more to life than what meets the eye. And He wants to bring us into that reality.
But to be part of that reality in all aspects of our lives, we must step out of the flesh, which exalts self, and into the spirit, which relies on God.
It’s a leap we all must make and keep making daily.
Hack Your BODY
Does being poor in spirit help us at work in any way?
Yes, it does. The stories of Joseph, Daniel, and Jesus are examples of this.
- Joseph acknowledged God so much that he told “his boss” that only God could give him the interpretation of the problem and the solution needed.
- Daniel showed everyone that he unapologetically served God and derived his excellence and safety from Him.
- Jesus did not take his personal time with God for granted because He knew that was the source and direction for the days ahead.
None of these people acknowledged their strength as the reason for their exploits at work. It was always a higher force that empowered them.
If we can work with this same mentality daily, I believe we will be able to accomplish so much more than we currently do.
And as I say, it’s not just about the physical accomplishments, which is good and what we all hope for. But the transformation we experience inside is the real prize.

My answer to this was to change my mindset on how excellence is achieved. It’s not by my power or might but by the Holy Spirit. This means asking for the enablement to be excellent throughout the day.
Joseph didn’t know what was coming that day, but he was empowered for it. I want to be empowered too. Do you?
