Enjoy The Gift God Has Given You

“We should eat and we should drink. And we should enjoy our work. There is nothing better that we can do than those things. I believe that these are gifts from God.” Ecclesiastes 2:24 EASY

Sometimes we toil all night and catch nothing.

Other times, we cast our nets to the right side and get net-breaking results.

But when your sole focus is on what you catch, you miss the point. Results are super important and sometimes, when we put in long hours of effort, we appreciate the results more.

But hard work has two components: toiling and results. Many of us don’t enjoy what we do because we live by the quote that says, “the end justifies the means.” It doesn’t matter what the “means” could be, as long as we get to the end, we’re good. We say this while having a myopic view of what the “end” really means.

After several years of living as the wisest man on earth, Solomon’s conclusion is different.

The “means” matters. The toiling does matter. How you choose to get to that end matters.

The truth is how you work causes a transformation in you. By the time you get to that end you’ve always looked forward to, who you are at that point is a result of how you toiled.

What will be your transformation story at the end? Whom do you want to become when you celebrate your massive accomplishments?

We spend most of our lives working and it’ll be a disservice to us to not have fun doing it. In a previous post where I explained how your career is a calling, I stated that it’s important to align your strengths, talents, skills and knowledge because this becomes your advantage as you make progress.

You enjoy doing what you’re good at.

You enjoy facing challenges that you know are present because of your assignment.

You enjoy putting in extra hours when your work gives you a sense of fulfilment.

You enjoy the fruit of your daily labour when you understand that what you earn isn’t what sustains you because God is behind every provision you have.

You enjoy waking up every morning because the activities you engage in throughout the day help you further express your talents, strengths, etc.

You have fun toiling because you have the right community, support systems and work environment around you in the same boat.

Never underestimate the importance of enjoying what you do. Redefine what your end should be, and then it’ll determine how you get there.
