More money is a good motivator, but it’s not the ultimate.
Money is only a means to an end. We acquire money in order to acquire something else. However, the reason why we don’t pursue these end benefits directly is because we can’t see them. We only feel them.
Based on our own human understanding, we feel we should be able to acquire these intangible end benefits with money.
End benefits include wants like, power, peace of mind, freedom, rest, free time, respect, comfort, health, etc.
Smart people do work and create solutions that target specific end benefits. If what you do only promises the end user more money, then your marketing message is incomplete.
If we get more money, but we don’t get the end benefit were looking for, we’ll continue to search for the solution that gets us that end benefit.
For example, you’re disrespected and you say, “Perhaps when I make money, they’ll respect me”. If you do make lots of money and the respect doesn’t come, you won’t be satisfied. You’ll have to find another way to earn that respect because money didn’t solve it.
If your dream is freedom to travel the world and you feel it’s lots of money that’ll help you get that, what happens when you get a job that takes you around the world the way you desired and covers your expenses, yet doesn’t pay you much? Lots of money is no longer needed.
Humans are driven by end benefits. Joseph didn’t just help Egypt make more money. He made the land a place of Political power (Genesis 41:57). That’s an end benefit that Pharoah liked.
