“Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.” Isaiah 60:1 NKJV
As children, we recited this verse so much. It was our parents’ way of telling us to be proud of being called Children of God. But what does the verse really mean?
The light that Isaiah is referring to is Jesus. And he simply says that because of the presence of Jesus in our lives, we now can arise and shine.
The presence of Jesus in our hearts now makes it possible for us to arise out of depression, guilt, unworthiness and lies into a new life through which God’s glory will be evident.
We live in dark times and many people are just looking for some light for their journey. You and I have been positioned to shine that light that’s inside of us.
You have a lot of power in you. Just flick the switch on.
How can we arise and shine through work?
God calls us to do certain things based on the journey He has taken us through. The people you look up to today once had a season where they felt empty.
Then they received a call to adventure that caused them to arise, moving from who they were to who they needed to be. Now, their life’s work is to show others how God helped them through it all. And they do this through different professions and diverse industries.
What did God pull you out of? When you remember the slumbered life you rose from, you’ll be able to radiate the light within you, showing others currently in that life, how they too can arise.
God wants to do two things with us:
- He wants to build us
- He wants to make us channels of blessing.
Every other thing we acquire on that path is a bonus.
“Looking at how God has helped me in the past, I can shine the light of Christ to others in the following ways….”
Many people think this could mean becoming a Pastor or a volunteer in an NGO. No. It doesn’t stop you from being a consultant with clients who have the problem you once faced. It doesn’t stop you from being a doctor with compassion for young people with an ailment that your sibling struggled with.
There’s no need to think outside the box. Just throw the box away and let the Holy Spirit guide your answer. Then note down what comes to mind.
