“…For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7 NKJV
I’ve watched several movies to know that most circus clowns hate their jobs. You see the anger and bitterness they express after they get out of their funny costumes.
They complain about the low pay and scoff at the manager for being so cruel as they walk back through dark alleys to their small apartment that rattles every time a train passes above them.
They dream of doing something better in future but unfortunately, as the day breaks, they must head out to their first job of the day so they can pay bills. Once night-time approaches, it’s clown time again.
What a life!
To those who go to the circus or parks, the clowns perform well. They clap and laugh as the clowns do their thing. The audience gets immensely satisfied and heads home after a hard day’s work. To them, the clowns scored 100%. But the performers see things differently.
Your heart is important. If your heart posture isn’t right, you become a clown -performing 100% for others but feeling 0% while you’re at it.
Check in with the lady who won the award for being the best worker in your organisation last year and there’s a chance you’ll see a funny-looking mask. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying all performers hate their work. But there’s a chance that if the performer hasn’t been intentional about their heart posture, things can get out of hand.
I’ve been a clown many times, and I dare say, I still find myself being a clown sometimes. But the good thing is I know that wearing a mask and making others feel good while I deteriorate doesn’t serve me. So, the earlier I get my heart right, the faster I can take off the mask and be in an environment where I can thrive.
We all get to be clowns sometimes; some stay clowns longer than others. The bottom line is this: know when you’re being a clown and take off the mask as fast as possible.
Today’s Task: In what area of life are you being a Circus Clown? What must you do to take off the mask?
Answer This…
“If I were going to become even more proud of who I am, and I were going to live more congruent with that vision of myself, I would have to start…”
This is a call to growth and to answer this, you only need to open your journal and make a list of actions you need to start taking today. It’ll only take a few minutes.
