“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9.
I remember when I decided to start writing a daily newsletter with a specific goal in mind: to share the gospel through personal experiences and an ongoing transformation of how I work.
At the time, I felt stressed and burned out, and I wanted to change how I worked. So, I began documenting my journey in devotional articles sent out via email. It was my way of taking action and staying true to my beliefs.
However, there were periods when I grew weary, and life’s challenges made it difficult to keep writing consistently. There were days when I felt discouraged, thinking I had failed because I couldn’t maintain the daily routine.
I started and stopped multiple times before finding a consistent rhythm. I’ve realised that even though I am doing something good, I can get tired of doing it. The anchor scripture is a comforting reminder that even in our moments of weariness, our efforts to do good and follow God’s will do not go unseen. It emphasises that we can grow weary while doing good, but it also gives us a promise—that in due season, we will reap if we do not lose heart.
How can we avoid growing weary while doing good work?
Good work refers to anything that pleases God—anything that aligns with what God would have us do.
This means that our consistency in doing good work is crucial. When we feel tired and exhausted, whether it’s in our jobs or serving in ministry, we need to turn to God and seek His guidance. He can provide us with new strategies and the strength to keep going.
It would be wrong to expect that doing good will always be easy and without challenges. Even the noblest work can leave us feeling exhausted. However, when we start feeling weary, we can turn to God and ask for His help. We can share our struggles with Him and seek His wisdom for a way forward.
When life’s challenges threaten to discourage us, it’s okay to acknowledge when we feel tired and to request new strategies from Him. I used to believe that admitting I was tired was a sign of weakness. So, I would brace up and keep moving like nothing was wrong.
God, through the Holy Spirit, made me realise that He can provide me with the strength and wisdom to stay consistent and committed to the work He has called me to do, no matter how unclear it may seem at times.
“I remain intentional in doing the work that God has called me to do.”
Our consistency will be challenged, but when we turn to God in prayer, we leverage His strength to overcome these challenges.
When weariness sets in, let’s not lose heart. Instead, seek God’s guidance and find new strategies for moving forward. With His help, we can keep up the good work and reap the rewards in due season.
