I once interviewed an established serial entrepreneur who was also an Artist who paints, an author, an athlete, a lover of music and was about to release his first track at the time of the interview. I couldn’t fathom how one man could have so many diverse sides. Over time, I’ve seen and met more people with more active passions.
A Photographer I know loves throwing punches in the air, acting like he’s in a boxing ring with anyone who is willing to be the victim. I said to him, “It’s not too late to pursue your passion for boxing, you know”. As someone in his 30’s, he laughed and said jokingly, “Ah! At this age you want me to start boxing.” I just smiled.
We have been taught to be unidirectional by those who see it as the best way to live. But every day, people are proving that we don’t have to just be known by one path. Why? So much has been placed inside us that it’ll be a disservice not to explore them. Eventually, we’ll see how to tie everything in one knot, but at the beginning, that may not be possible.
Every good gift comes from God. If it’s a gift, then it’s our duty to unwrap it and use it. Otherwise, it’ll gather dust and be given to someone else. If you have the opportunity to unwrap yourself in your current organisation, then good for you. Such a culture will bring out the best in you. But if you don’t have that opportunity, then find a platform that will help you do just that.
Even if you’re not ready for the world to see how diverse you are, it’s okay. Work in your closet. One day, you’ll have an epiphany that will make you promote yourself with confidence.
As you acknowledge everything you’re made of, your brain also starts to work better, creating new pathways of expression and helping you process information very differently. Your paradigm of what life is will shift and you’ll become very different from the person you are now. That’s the transformation that we all want to see.
