“Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand – shine!” Matthew 5:15 MSG
I once had to facilitate a talent exhibition organised by the Headquarters of my local church. At first, I wasn’t too happy about the additional work. And like everything in life, there were tasks I didn’t want to do.
But when the d-day came, I had the opportunity to physically interact with these bold talents willing to compete on stage for a prize. I forgot all the gruesome work I had to do. It was all pure joy from then on.
As I sat down to have a one-on-one conversation with one of the participants looking to pitch a tech solution, I found myself telling him tactics about pitching ideas that I didn’t even realise I knew until then.
But I was particularly proud of what he was about to do. He was a longtime friend whom I had just reconnected with and was willing to talk about this new game changer he was building. Several people had dropped out of the competition for different reasons, but this dude didn’t let the opportunity slide.
The good news is he eventually won the competition and I couldn’t be more proud. It also got me thinking about how many of us have something awesome to offer to the world but belittle the opportunities presented to us.
God wants us to shine! With Christ as the source of light, we can never go dim. But many of us are scared or don’t have the support required. It’s no wonder we have very limited Christian movies online.
What if you don’t know what you have to offer to the world? Well, help someone else shine. Put yourself out there, hold the hand of someone whose success you’re interested in and help them shine. With this, you’ll also find your shine.
As the saying goes, “we rise by lifting others”. Let’s all shine on the hilltop, shall we?
