Is the Lord really King over your life? Before we start talking about how God conquers the god of this world and takes back the throne, we need to ask ourselves if He has the throne in our hearts.I say this because we serve several gods without realising it. For example…What lengths will you go to, to make money?Do you always follow the choice of clothes that the Holy Spirit instructs you to wear?Do you always choose work over fellowship?Are you more concerned about “your truth” than the Truth?Would you rather sleep than pray?There was a time I served in the media department in church, and it was customary for us to use our laptops since the church couldn’t afford to get all the equipment.I had a powerful laptop that was gifted to me, and for a long time, I refused to take it to church. Then one day, the Holy Spirit asked me, “Who gave you this laptop? And what makes you think I can’t give you another if something happens to this one?” Since then, the laptop has stopped being a god, and the power it had over me fell off.These and many more are subconscious ways we give power to gods other than the King himself.For the King to rule in our lives, we must be ready to conquer self totally and make decisions contrary to what we may prefer to do.
How can we put God’s work over personal desires?
Sometimes we may be instructed to carry out a task when what we want to do is quite different. One thing I do when this happens is I start praying and wait.And I realise that, over time, God finds a way to gradually build a desire in my heart for what He wants me to do. I begin to see reasons why His way is better. This usually happens over a prolonged period of time, but it always happens. And I believe this is why I don’t support statements like, “How you feel doesn’t matter when God tells you to do something.” I believe God cares about how we feel because our emotions are powerful.If you choose to allow Him, He has the power to change the emotions you have towards that new instruction. But many times, what happens is that once we hear something that doesn’t align with us, we grumble or tell God to His face that we will not do it.A better alternative is to go to God in prayer and say, “Father, I know this is what you want me to do. But it seems hard, and I don’t like it. Create a desire for this work in my heart so that I do it with everything I have, with joy and without grumbling.”Why run when you can yield?

There are activities and desires that you have made a priority over how God would really have you live your life. What are they?Don’t just start making changes the moment you identify them. Have a heart-to-heart with God, telling Him your concerns and asking for strength to make changes. Then watch the magic happen.
