“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise…” II Peter 3:9 NKJV
To declare that you are not slacking in performing a specific action means that through observation, you have been spotted doing it repeatedly, without fail. You have a reputation for doing that act and people can now predict that you will always do it.
This is what a track record looks like. It is not a question of frequency but the consistency of action. Whether you do it daily, or once a year, the fact is whenever it is done, the outcome is the same.
As humans, we have people who need us to perform certain duties without fail, in all roles. As a father, husband, entrepreneur or support system, these separate roles require their track records from me. At the core, my track record as a father will be different from that of being an entrepreneur.
How can you develop a positive track record?
1. Desire to be better
It’s always best to do something because it’ll make you better instead of what people will say. God is not slack in His promise because of his name. When I realise that I’m trying to perform because of external validation, I try to flip the switch to find the internal reason. When I don’t flip that switch, misery and exhaustion set in over time.
2. Surround yourself with people who have that track record
Your association will influence your actions. Being planted by water will give you the nourishment you need. Being planted in the desert will kill whatever habit you want to develop.
3. Get feedback
As much as possible, avoid self-righteousness. You may do an action a few times and think you’re perfect until someone tells you that you missed it a few times. God is perfect, but we are on a journey to perfection. You can use feedback from others to get back on track when you go off.
A good track record has multiple benefits, one of which is having people speak on your behalf even when you’re not there. Are you trying to become better and build a reputation in an area of your life? Get the right people around you for accountability and use their feedback to be better
