“The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do…”” Exodus 4:21 NIV
Doing magic tricks in front of an audience with a terrible sense of humour is a waste of time. In the same way, prescribing medication to a healthy man, or preaching about the need to be saved to born-again Christians won’t yield much fruit. Yes, it’s good work, but the location is wrong.
The gift of access is one of the greatest gifts that man can have. This access doesn’t necessarily mean being able to see those in high places. Doing the right work in the wrong place can be hard work without results. Nobody likes that.
When God wants to make a man extraordinary, the first leverage He gives is Power. The second is Positioning which is gotten from access. Being in the right place can amplify the little results that your work creates.
God was specific about who Moses was to show His power to. Moses could have gone to the Israelites to do it and all he’ll get will be a group of people thinking he was just another wannabe magician like their Egyptian masters. Some would be astonished, and he’ll get a handshake and some gifts, but that’ll be it. He needed to show the know-it-alls that he knew better.
It doesn’t matter that you’re seated at a table in the audience and not at the high table. If that’s where you need to be positioned in this season, rest assured that your work will be amplified in the way it should be right now. When you eventually get to the high table, you’ll get the results you deserve.
You can have the right job but in the wrong company. You can start the right business for you but in the wrong location. The problem isn’t the work you did but where you did it. Direction first is always better than speed.
It’s one thing to have Power and another to use it with the right Positioning. Wrong placement breeds disrespect for the gift God has given you. So, as you pray to be filled with His power so you can do wonders through your work, remember to ask God “where and to whom?” That’s the sweet spot and the question at the top of my mind as well.
