On Saturday, 21st October, I travelled for a friend’s wedding. We took off at 7am and the road trip lasted just 2 hours.
It was an easy trip. We didn’t need directions.
After all the celebration, dancing and food, it was time to return home. The return trip, by our calculations given the time of day, traffic we encountered and distance, was supposed to last about 4 hours or more.
Return trip: 3 hours.
How come? Google maps.
The traffic was heavy and we needed to divert. Google maps plotted multiple routes that even guys who has worked in that city for a long time didn’t know.
We spent the next two hours talking about how innovation just saved us some car fuel.
No one else strikes me as a master innovator in the Bible like Joseph. He prepared for a famine that had probably never occurred in that magnitude before. Sunday school teachers still call him “Joseph the Dreamer.”
That was li’l Joseph. The older dude was a money maker.

If Google Maps preserves time and car fuel, Joseph preserved life (Genesis 45:5).
