“And endurance develops strength of character…” Romans 5:4 NLT
It doesn’t matter how hard you work, bad character always gets in the way. You may have an intense passion for what you do and feel excited every time you work, but if all that work isn’t properly oiled with good character, it’ll all be lost.
No one is born with 100% good character. Sometimes, our character can get misinterpreted probably because of unique situations. You can also think you have good character when you don’t.
Nonetheless, good character can be built. If right now you feel your character is a write-off, have some faith because being able to recognise bad character is the first step in the right direction.
Work isn’t done in isolation but with the collaboration of others. To effectively collaborate and produce results, that engine is oiled with character.
Do you have a desire for excellence, or are you comfortable with mediocrity? It will influence your quality of work.
Do you have integrity, or do you like to overpromise and underdeliver? It will influence your relationships.
Do you obey the simplest instructions, or do you feel you know it all? It will influence just how high you climb.
Do you take responsibility for your actions, or do you prefer to put the blame on others? It will influence your likeability.
Do you try your best to find solutions to problems, or do you prefer to sit back and complain about the things you can fix? It will influence your opportunities.
Do you focus on the task at hand, or do you intentionally push things forward until you miss the deadline, giving excuses along the way? It will influence trust in you.
A bad character can be fixed. Good character can be improved. No hope is lost. People may get angry at how you approach work and relationships now, but if you intend to grow, then let your character grow too.
Growth requires change. Change requires you to endure modifications to your default self. Once you can pass the endurance test, you’ll see changes in your character. So embrace the growth you currently experience and identify parts of your character that are already being transformed. You’ll succeed.
