“You must put new wine into new wineskins. Then there will be nothing to spoil the wine or the wineskins.” Matthew 9:17 EASY
Are you ready for the future you’ve been praying for? Is your mind ready for big and bold ideas?
As an undergraduate, I started a blog called “Deep Think”, where I wrote articles helping people get rid of negative thoughts. As someone who had battled with a good dose of low self-esteem, it was something I was willing to help others overcome.
I published a ton of articles and attracted a vast international audience. My goal with the blog at the time was to use it as a portfolio for freelance writing projects, which worked perfectly. But my mind wasn’t ready for what came next.
I noticed that most of the people who read my posts were of the older generation. I had several international readers in their 40’s and 50’s read and comment. And then something happened.
These readers started asking questions. They asked for mental health advice. They wanted direct help to get rid of their limiting thoughts and beliefs. They wanted to achieve more, even at their age.
I freaked out.
The last thing I imagined was that I’d have to coach people much older than me to overcome things I was able to overcome. Becoming a coach wasn’t even in the picture. I couldn’t see it, and even though that path stared me right in the face, I still couldn’t understand it.
A few months later, the blog became a ghost of itself because I abandoned it. I just stopped and left those hundreds of people to seek help somewhere else.
Almost a decade later, I re-explored coaching which now gives me the most fulfilment. Who would have thought?
Big ideas can cause serious damage to a small mind. It’s like the brain goes into flight mode and jumps on the next plane to anywhere else aside from the big idea.
If I had only just explored the possibilities of being a coach at that time, perhaps my trajectory would have been different. But I wasn’t mentally ready for it. Imposter syndrome consumed me and I found every excuse to not go down that path.
That’s what you’re probably doing today.
Is your mind in flight mode because of that big idea you can’t comprehend? Did you abandon that project because you didn’t think you were qualified enough to complete it?
The world is moving fast, with opportunities coming and going every day. Don’t wait ten years like me before realising that you could have explored that big idea, even if it was for a little bit.
So I’ll ask again. Are you ready for the future you’ve been praying for? Is your mind ready for big and bold ideas? Take some time today, look at the ideas and the future in front of you, identify the limiting beliefs and make the commitment to try.
Your future will be grateful for the decision you make today.
