Before The Sun Sets

“From the rising of the sun to its going down The Lord’s name is to be praised.” Psalms 113:3 NKJV

Every day, the earth completes a rotation on its axis. We recognise this completion through the sun’s rising and setting, day and night.

A complete rotation is a journey. Moving from day to night is an experience packed with several realities. I like that the Psalmist didn’t say, “When the sun sets, praise God.” Instead, he says, “Even while the complete rotation is yet to happen, keep praising God.”

We often like to wait until the sun sets before we have a reason to praise God. We want to see the completion of something before recognising that God is working.

So, everything seems like a waste when something happens, and the sun never sets on that project or opportunity. That’s not a good perspective.

Amidst the sunshine, the rain, cold, or heat, there’s always a reason to be grateful.

How can we worship God through our work?

Imagine a friend giving you an outfit as a gift. Whenever you have an event and put that outfit on, you’ve just expressed gratitude to that friend for the gift through your actions.

Now flip the script and imagine you gave a friend an outfit. Then, a few days later, you visit that friend and see your gift in the trash outside or as a rag in the house. How do you think the rejection would make you feel? You’d vow to never waste your resources on such again. It doesn’t mean you’ll cut ties with that friend, but the relationship will taste different.

Worshipping God through work means using what He has blessed us with for His purpose, not ours. So, every time we rise in the morning and tune our hearts to ensure we’re on track as we work, we create an intention to worship.

This is how we worship God, not just from our lips but from our hearts. We don’t need to see the final manifestation of the gifts He has blessed us with. Even while it is completing a rotation, we are grateful because we also get to experience the journey to completion.

And God is faithful because the sun always sets on everything. So, be assured that the goal you set will be completed.
