“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12 NLT
I learned recently at a training program that one major factor that causes stress is unfulfilled dreams. Prior to that training, I would have mentioned burnout, overwhelm, and overwork as causes of stress, but never unfulfilled dreams.
I love running side projects, just for curiosity’s sake, though I’m a bit smarter with it now than when I was single. As I reflected on my life, I started to remember the times I felt really stressed and realised that amongst other regular factors, those were periods when I was unable to explore my curiosity with diverse projects due to a heavy workload in one area.
I could also trace the overwhelm and sadness I felt to unfulfilled dreams, and it just made sense. What this means is simple:
“If you want to feel alive, overcome your fears and go after your dreams.”
We all have dreams and sometimes they seem far away because of current limitations. But there’s always a way around limitations. We only need the courage to admit that there’s a way and the determination to explore that alternative route.
Do you currently feel stressed? Perhaps do a quick check-in with your dreams.
