“Then all the craftsmen who were doing all the work of the sanctuary came, each from the work he was doing, and they spoke to Moses, saying, “The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the Lord commanded us to do.” Exodus 36:4-5 NKJV
Receiving a letter of employment does not guarantee a successful career. It is only the first step. By the time you start working, you will need to prove that the appointment letter wasn’t given to the wrong person. You will face tests, and challenges as well as experience good times all to validate your appointment.
I stay in a country where many people feel entitled to what others have. For example…
…The sales attendant at the mall feels entitled to your change, almost forcing you to keep the change with them after buying items.
…The average employee feels entitled to office giveaways on fully funded official trips despite all his needs being covered.
…The average security guard expects a tip every time you walk out of the office and can sometimes give an attitude when he doesn’t get anything over a period.
In the focus scripture, the craftsmen chosen by God came to Moses to report a situation of surplus. They had more than enough for the sanctuary building and did not say to themselves, “Let us keep the change, after all, we are doing the work.” To them, the needs had been covered and they had no right over what the Israelites gave as offering.
In the beginning, your portfolio, network, personality, and many other factors will qualify you for the work. But once you start, you contend with new factors. Greed, mediocrity, peer pressure, laziness, envy, and any other negative trait you can think of will come at you, not to tear you down, but to prove your worthiness.
When Christ was about to be arrested, he needed to pray because his flesh wasn’t ready to go through the hardship ahead. If he gave in to the desires of his flesh, he would not be worthy to open the sealed book in Revelations 5:5.
Your career is your calling and every day, you must prove how worthy you are. This quest to prove isn’t for your colleagues or your boss. They are not the ones who validate you. It’s for God and yourself. Failing the tests will not stop you from being a child of God and enjoying the blessings of God, but it will deprive you of the benefits only for those who win.
So, I ask, are you worthy of your work? If your answer is no, then today is a good day to change that.
Today’s Task: Do something today and for the rest of this week to prove that you are worthy of the work God has called you into. It could be just one small task.
