“So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 NKJV
As someone in the media industry, I have learned that sometimes information is crafted to mess with us. The word “media” means channel or portal. It’s like a tunnel that enables the flow of information from one end to another.
Before anything can get into our soul and spirit, it has to pass through portals because we’re in the physical realm, which is the natural habitat of the body. What are these portals? They’re the five senses.
What we see, hear, smell, taste, and feel influences who we become. Like a computer, these are the input devices that decide what shows on the screen.
The world was created with the influence of words through sound. And we only hear sound; we can’t see or taste it. To have faith, we must hear the Word of God until it enters our spirit and becomes a revelation that births faith.
This is what the enemy wants to avoid. So, he has taken over the media such that the primary information going through the five senses is negativity.
How can we ensure we work from an informed position without being negatively influenced?
Without having faith in the God who gave us work to do, we will not do things as He desires. To have this faith, our portals must be ready to receive.
Every day, we receive both negative and positive information that influences our decisions. But there’s a legal enforcer who decides what stays and what goes. The work ethic of this enforcer is determined by how we’ve trained him in the past.
This enforcer is called “the mind.” Our mind is the filter that processes everything that comes through our portals. If the mind is trained to recognise contaminated information, then it’ll do the job. If not, that information infiltrates our spirit and soul, stopping the Word from becoming faith.
This is why the Apostle Paul advises us in Romans 12:2 to continually renew our mind because it’s always working 24/7, sieving through received information. This renewal is how we train our minds, and it’s an intentional practice.
The more we train our minds, the more of God’s word we will have reside in us. This is how we become fertile ground for faith to grow.

We need God’s help to do this because our minds have been framed with experiences from the past that have made us who we are today.
To become who God wants us to be, we must overhaul. Ask God what you need to overhaul, and the Holy Spirit will help in every way possible.
