“Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” Genesis 1:26 NLT
Just recently, I rose one morning with the desire to do a lot of work. After doing the usual daily activity of taking my daughter to school, I decided to listen to a teaching by my Pastor on how to write confessions.
The day before, a bookshelf I ordered was delivered to me. So, as I listened to this teaching message, I assembled the bookshelf for my workspace. But as time went by, I noticed something.
My countenance began to drop. I felt sadness rise in my heart. Why? The sermon kept speaking to me, making me realise that I had a lot of work to do on myself.
The preacher said, “You can think in your mind that something is a priority, but your heart doesn’t see it as one. And the reason is you haven’t verbally, through repetition, told your heart to prioritise that thing.”
I run several projects, and in some seasons, I desired to prioritise one. But I never found myself investing more time in it. I couldn’t understand why.
Hearing this made me realise I was the reason for my lack of progress in certain areas. It wasn’t external circumstances or demands. I did it.
In Matthew 14, Peter walked on water to meet Jesus. He believed in his heart that he could do it and set forth based on the instructions of Jesus. But in the process, he considered circumstances outside of himself and began to sink, even though Jesus called him.
In the sermon, the preacher also said, “One of the reasons our hearts aren’t in alignment is because we have not identified who we need to become.”
Check the scriptures for those God called; He always gave them a picture of who they could become.
Gideon was called a mighty man of valour even in his doubtful state.
Abram was called the Father of many nations despite his lack of children.
Jeremiah was called a prophet even when he had doubts.
Jesus was called the son of God and redeemed even before he was crucified.
Have you been called to do something, yet you’re sinking like Peter? I’ve realised that just because we’re doing the work God wants us to do doesn’t mean we are exempted from the pressures of life.
Getting back to work was a struggle because I wondered why I didn’t have this new knowledge earlier and kept thinking about how I may have sabotaged my progress.
However, the testimony from this experience is that I became very intentional during the day, recognising behaviours and habits that may not help me become who God has created me to be.
And I pray that your eyes are also opened to see who God wants you to become and that you recognise the behaviours and habits that can hinder that future you from manifesting in Jesus’ name.
