While learning to drive, my dad would say, “Remember, you’re the only sane person on the road.” In other words, I can’t control how others drive, but I can control how I drive.
True to his words, sometimes you wonder whether some drivers and car owners were okay before leaving the house because driving can get crazy.
Our bodies are like cars with someone at the wheel. You either have the Spirit of God at the wheel of your life or the spirit that lives in the world.
Without discernment, you can’t determine the spirit driving the lives of your friends, loved ones, or colleagues. The key thing to be sure of is, “Who is at the wheel of my life?” Who is driving you? Who is influencing your actions and telling you where to go?
How can we ensure God’s spirit drives our work?
Once we can settle in our hearts that the Holy Spirit is at the wheel of our lives, then He drives everything. No matter the capacity you’re trying to fill, whether as a father, leader, mother, or sibling, He’s at the wheel.
Knowing this means we can never make any wrong turns. We get onto the road of life, sure that we’ll end up just fine. This is what it means to fight a battle from victory.
We don’t need to consider whether we’ll reach our destination. We’re sure we’ll get there. But to get there, we must be on the road. Others may feel unsure about the path or the navigation, but not us.
So, the next time you have doubts at work, unsure whether you can pull off that great feat that’s demanded of you, remember who is at the wheel. Ask the Holy Spirit to hit the gas, and yield to His instructions.
“I am driven by the spirit of God.”
A bad driver can wreck an expensive car. An experienced driver can use an old car for a long time. It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you look like. You could be an F1 race car, a Rolls Royce, an old beat-up car, or a pickup truck. Your confidence is in the experience of your driver.
God knows all the possible turns, dead ends, danger zones, and highways. Trust His judgement, and He’ll get you home.
