“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15 NIV
I have so many things to be anxious about. We all do. This also means we all have so many things to lay at the feet of Jesus, so we feel at peace.
But how many of us do that?
The world is a busy place, and it was masterfully crafted that way so that only the disciplined ones who intentionally desire fellowship with God survive. Everyone else drowns in busyness, unproductivity, unrest, anxiety, and chaos.
If we exist in a system that continuously draws us away from the Father, how can we then get closer?
To succeed, we can’t stop working. We can’t run away from the rest of the world and stay in solitude just because we want peace. We’ll make no impact that way.
Instead, we must learn to integrate. As we face the harsh realities of earthly life head-on, we commune with the Holy Spirit, asking for peace and handing over our burdens every second of the day.
This way, we hand over power to the rightful owner, Jesus, and bask in His peace. It’s possible and worth it.
How can we integrate constant fellowship even as we work?
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach because we constantly have to evolve as we move through different seasons.
But the fact is still that if we must be constantly empowered to do the work we’ve been called to do, then we can’t do it without carrying our creator along every step of the way.
Acknowledging God in all our ways isn’t just an attempt for God to poke his nose into what we do. Instead, it’s the very strategy we need to receive wisdom on how to do our work. This is how we integrate.
It takes practice to remember to ask God for help as we conduct our daily tasks. I also forget many times and it’ll sometimes take stumbling on a scripture for me to remember.
But whenever I do, there is a confidence that comes with knowing I’m doing something right; that I have backing and so, I can’t make mistakes.
Whenever something seems impossible, too difficult or even too simple, in that same second and with the same breath, tell God how you feel.
It can be something as simple as, “Father, I feel anxious right now and it’s overwhelming me. I receive your peace that passes all understanding as I do this project. Your wisdom guides me every step of the way. In Jesus’ name. Amen”.
With a few deep breaths, you’re good to go. This won’t send anxiety away, but you have just the right ammo to attack when it comes.
“To constantly integrate fellowship with God daily, I must increase my discipline in these areas…”
I realised that out of all the hours in the day, I cherished spending at least one hour in solitude. To do that, I had to discipline myself to wake up daily before 5:30 am.
That first hour with no noise or interaction from others has been priceless and I never want to stop it. I feel like I’m now addicted…. ha-ha!
What areas do you need extra discipline in? Write them down and just take them one at a time.
